A Saga of Garden Garrison, Freedom Struggle, Custodians of Civil Rights & Justice:
For most Delhites, the name "Tis Hazari" evokes the visual image of a congested, dusty district courts complex in North Delhi, frequented by multitudes of litigants seeking justice. Yet, few are aware of its rich historical origins. The literal meaning of "Tis Hazar" is "Thirty Thousand".
As per Mughal literature, a royal princess ordered the creation of a vast garden with 30,000 trees at this very location. In Sikh literature, it is noted that the grounds housed a massive garrison of thirty thousand horses and cavalry. Regardless of the versions, what remains undisputed is that the Tis Hazari Complex has witnessed remarkable moments in history.
Notably, Jahanara Begum, the eldest daughter of Emperor Shahjahan, is said to have had a strong connection with the area.
